Here you will find a little information about me – in case you were wondering.

How did I ever get into this?

My books arise out of a long-standing but uneasy relationship with Italy, my adopted country. Italy is great in some respects – for example Italians know how to have a fun evening without getting hammered – and incomprehensible in others – why do Italian men believe they have iron testicles and why are Italian bus-drivers always in such a filthy mood?

If you’re thinking of moving to Italy, or in love with the image of Italy, my books will give you an insight into how daily life in Italy really ticks along … for better or worse … and (I hope) with a smile or two along the way.

Biography (the short version)

I’m a ‘professore’, specialising in linguistics and Italian-English translation, based at the University of Trento in the far north of Italy.
I was born in south-east England and emigrated to Italy in the 1980s.
Married, with three grown-up children who are either Italian or English or both. Still working that one out.
Relaxation: escaping the madness by walking in the Dolomite Mountains and getting laddishly excited about rugby.
